Description:
The latest OpenVPN Connect app may display the following error message when connecting to the VPN:
"option_error: sorry, unsupported options present in configuration: UNKNOWN/UNSUPPORTED OPTIONS"
This indicates that the .ovpn configuration file contains directives not meant for the client app. Often, these are going to be server-only directives.
Solutions:
- (Recommended) You can remove the rogue directive from the .ovpn configuration file. Refer to THIS document to view the list of supported/ignored/unsupported directives.
- Or you can download and install an older version of OpenVPN Connect. Older versions ignore unsupported options, allowing the connection to be established. Download and install an older version:
OpenVPN Connect for Windows 3.3.7
OpenVPN Connect for macOS 3.4.2
OpenVPN Connect for Android 3.3.4
Note: Although you have the option to use an older OpenVPN Connect app to mitigate this issue, we don't recommend installing older versions due to lack of security updates and patches. We encourage you to solve the underlying problem of unknown/unsupported options in the connection profile.
