Description: You can use an OpenWRT router as a VPN client with your Access Server. Follow the steps below to accomplish this task.
Create a user on Access Server for your OpenWRT router
- Sign in to your Access Server Admin Web UI.
- Click User Management > User Permissions.
- Under New Username, enter a username for the OpenWRT router (for example, "OpenWRT").
- Check the box for Allow Auto-login.
- Click Save Settings and Update Running Server.
Download a connection profile (.ovpn file) for your OpenWRT router
- Click User Management > User Profiles.
- Find the OpenWRT user you created and click New Profile.
- Select Autologin and click Create Profile.
- The connection profile (.ovpn) downloads to your computer.

- Rename the downloaded file to something easy to identify like OpenWRT.ovpn.
Configure the OpenWRT Router
- Sign in to the OpenWRT router web UI.
- Click VPN > OpenVPN.
Note: If the OpenVPN menu item is missing, install the luci-app-openvpn package from System > Software. - Under OVPN configuration file upload, enter a friendly name (for example, OpenWRT).
- Click Browse and select the connection profile you downloaded:
- Click Upload:
- Check the Enabled box for the new configuration and click Save & Apply.

Verify the connection
- Sign in to the Access Server Admin Web UI.
- Click Status > Current Users:
- The OpenWRT connection displays.
